Jews of Silence

Let's compare:

1) Some lunatic sets off a few firecrackers in the Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth, and in response thousands of Arabs protest / march / riot in response.

2) A less than flattering (but highly accurate) cartoon featured in a Danish newspaper equated the Prophet Mohammed (founder of Islam) with terrorism, which led to rioting, rampaging and murdering by hundreds of thousands of enraged Muslims throughout the world.

---------------------

A) The only shul (over a century old) in Tajikistan (85% Muslim) - of the former Soviet Union - is being torn down so that yet another Presidential Palace can be built in its place - and the Jews of the world are silent.

B) 30 shuls in Gush Katif are destroyed in a single day by our Arab enemies (likely the largest single day # since Kristelnacht) - with the blessings of the government of the State of Israel - and the Jews of the world (short of some on the religious / political right in Israel) are silent.

C) The Temple Mount, the holiest site of the Jewish People, is systematically cleansed of any physical (historic) Jewish presence courtesy of the Muslim Waqf, as the government of the State of Israel and the Jews of the world are silent. This is in addition to the discrimination practiced against all observant Jews who visit the Temple Mount - a joint initiative of the government of the State of Israel, the Supreme Court and the Muslim Waqf - who said that there couldn't be Jewish - Arab co-existence?

D) Joseph's Tomb in Schem, as well as one of the oldest synagogue's in the world - namely, the Shalom Al Yisrael synagogue in Jericho, are destroyed and vandalized at the hands of our Muslim enemies, and the Jews of the world and the government of the State of Israel are silent.

E) Qassam rockets continue to rain down upon the Jewish communities of Israel - going on over 4 years now - and the government of the State of Israel and the Jews of the world are silent!

Sadly, one could go on and on providing additional examples of Jewish silence in the face of oppression at the hands of our enemies.

What will it take for us to wake up?!?

20 Comments:

have you noticed how many arab people are free to publicly protest. Yiu see kids in day time at these things why arent they in school. Why arent the adults at jobs. They have free time to do all this. Jews work. so all we can do is respond on our computers when the bosses arent looking. after the riots in france and the recent mob mentality of the reaction to the cartoons I give up in hoping the 'world' will finally wake up as to what is going on in the world and which group is responsible for it.

I've discussed the core of the problem here:

It is called PSYCHOTIC DENIAL.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Mon Mar 06, 11:13:00 PM GMT+2

If one tries to destroy the Kotel or invade Israel I don't believe we will be silent. I think it's a question of importance and strategy. Very few care about Tajijistan, and the Zionists want them to go to Israel.

The muslims don't have world power, they live in countries with no political freedom or in poor countries. They look ate the West and have envy. They study in children that Mohammed was the greatest ruler and Islam had the whole world on his feet, and they start to think "But today it's not like this". So they want to change that, it's a normal act. But what they do it's sad, they don't know how to impose their culture. They think it's about religion. It's not. They thinks that they can do it by terrorism. They are wrong.

And the muslims act like babies, they cry all the time.

By Blogger Emanuel Ben-Zion, at Tue Mar 07, 02:39:00 AM GMT+2

While you're absolutely correct, I should note: I'm glad we're not like them.

By Blogger Ezzie, at Tue Mar 07, 02:49:00 AM GMT+2

It's question that we may never have an answer to.. why we never learn, and why we always return to our past ills as though we have never done them.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Tue Mar 07, 07:29:00 AM GMT+2

And when Olmert-Dichter blandly announce more yishuvim will (G-d forbid) be destroyed, where's all the protest?

By Blogger Batya, at Tue Mar 07, 07:43:00 AM GMT+2

Emmanuel - is that the limit for you - until they Muslims try to destroy the Kotel we should sit silently?

Scary thought.

Ezzie, sadly, there are some things we can learn from our Muslim cousins.

They don't let anyone step on them (and certainly not their G-d / religion).

They have absolutley no doubt as to ther right to all of "Palestine", and they are willing to go to personal sacrifice to bring that about.

granted, we may not agree with their means, but they are certainly comitted to their cause, which can't be said about too many amongst the Jewish People...

By Blogger Ze'ev, at Tue Mar 07, 09:40:00 AM GMT+2

I'm not sure that's true. Granted, not all Jews are committed; but are the percentages that much lower than the Muslims? Out of 2 Billion, how many are really dedicated? 10 million? 20 million? 50 million? Even 50 million is 2.5%. We're just not as noticeable, because we won't stoop to their level. Thank God for that.

By Blogger Ezzie, at Tue Mar 07, 11:01:00 AM GMT+2

Unsure how to respond to this post - if I stay silent, my absence of reaction will register as agreement with your message - so therefore I am forced to speak up, against your message!

I will not be silent, while you slander those in this country who seek peace. I will not be silent while you fight against freedom and democracy for all! I Protest! Is anyone listening?

With regard to your examples - a shul in Tajikistan is destroyed because it is built on state land and the state want to use that land. While I may disagree with the state of tajikistan not granting compensation, I doubt you would care if this happened in the USA - you only care because it helps you arouse a storm of hatred towards Tajikistan (which you keep pointing out is a majority muslim country - yes we got the message, them nasty muslims don't like us) and the Israeli government. Have you even got any proof that the Israeli government has done nothing? Does the Israeli government have to inform you Ze'ev of the diplomatic moves it attempts to protect the rights of Jews around the world?
As for example no. 2 - the shuls of Gush Katif. Given that these pictures were shown constantly on Israeli Television and talked about extensively, where do you get the idea that everyone was silent? What do you expect the Jews of the world to do? The Jewish People, through their government, made a decision for the good of the country to leave Aza - and we left behind buildings, which once we abandoned them, ceased to be batei knesset (houses of gathering) given that no Jews were going to gather in them. So actually, no 2 is just a lie.

Example no. 3 - I am going to turn the question around - how has the Jewish world remained silent when the Orthodox rabbinical sexist tyranny prevents women from going on the Temple Mount at all - that is 50% of the whole Jewish people (far greater than the "observant" Jews you claim are being discriminated against) and a far greater form of discrimination - they are not allowed there at all! And hold on a second, don't certain Orthodox authorities forbid Jews from going onto Har Habayit at all? How dare they? Why doesn't the Jewish world cry out? Or alternatively why does the Israeli Government allow any Jews to go? As a Jewish State shouldn't we listen to these wise rabbis? And hold on a sec, instead of talking about the top of the present day temple mount (which actually has no significance for Jews as it is a bunch of mosques) - let us talk about the kotel - a sign of hope for generations throughout our exile. How did this national monument belonging to all the Jewish people get taken over by the Orthodox tyranny which make up only 30% of Israel's population and only about 20% of the world's Jewish population. So how is it that this minority can rule over the minority - refusing rights to Reform Jews, Conservative Jews, Reconstructionist Jews, Women? How is that possible - where are the Jewish people's protestations about this abuse of power this travesty of injustice?

Example no. 4 - the destruction of a synagogue in Shchem and Yeriho. How is it possible that a Reform synagogue inside Israel was set alight by a Hareidi group and no-one was brought to Justice. A Synagogue set alight by Jews!!!! By Jews!!! How is that possible?

Example no5 - The government of Israel is silent about Kassam fire???? How many people have those kassamim killed? And how many civilians has the IDF had to kill as part of their tactics of targetted assasinations? And how many people have died this week because of the occupation? Are you crazy - the State of Israel does a hell of alot about Kassam fire - but you know what - we have enemies - what would you suggest we do?

What will it take for the Jews of Israel and the world to wake up? To stand up? To say to the Racist agenda of the Far right - enough is enough! We will suffer no more for your messianic dreams of expansion. We will not put up with the Orthodox monopoly and tyranny anymore. Where are the Jews who follow in the footsteps of Yeshiyahu and Yirmiyahu and Micah - screaming for peace, Justice and care for the widow, orphan and stranger. Where are the Jewish people who believe in the ideals of the Torah?

Ze'ev:

That was my point. Do you want to act like those silly little men in muslim countries? I think we are better than that, and H has a point, there were voices, you are one, so we didn't stay all silent. And you don't know what Israel did to prevent such acts. We are a small country trying to survive, so if we have to lose some Beit Knesset to win the war so be it.

I don't think that you understood me, the Kottel is untouchable so is any Jewish life. You can build new synagogues or even not pray in the Temple Mount (it's a muslim temple, do you want muslims in the Kottel?). We can't push the palestinians back to the desert. We are a peaceful Nation, I only fight my wars for people and for defence.

By Blogger Emanuel Ben-Zion, at Tue Mar 07, 04:34:00 PM GMT+2

I protest! There is nothing more undemocratic and discrimanting than Women Only Gym Clubs.

It is sexist. It is racist.

How does the secular world remain silent in the face of this travesty? Why doesn't the world cry out when men aren't allowed in.

They tyranny of the women, refusing to recognize the rights of men to enter a Women Only Gym.

And don't get me started on gender separated bathrooms and locker rooms.

Where is the protest?

Wake up! Stand up.

Scream for Justice.

It's wrong to set alight houses of worship of foreign religions even those with pretenses to monotheism.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Tue Mar 07, 06:11:00 PM GMT+2

Anon., it's that kind of sinat chinam (baseless hatred) that got us exiled in the first place. Non-Orthodox Jews may not be *your* kind of Jews, but whatever happened to ahavat Yisrael (love of the Jewish People), not to mention the principle "kol Yisrael areivim . . ., all Jews are responsible for one another"?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Tue Mar 07, 07:20:00 PM GMT+2

Ze'ev,

Yes, Jews work and go to school but if we do not get out and demonstrate our anger and hurt and refusal to accept the extensive anti-Semetic acts when they occur we will not be allowed to work or go to school or shul.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Tue Mar 07, 08:42:00 PM GMT+2

Non-orthodox Jews are *exactly* my kind of Jews. Now if you were to talk about their religion that would be something else.

Besides I didn't see any Sinat Chinam. I was agreeing with a poster above.

Conservative movement weighs recognition of gay marriage

The initiative's approval would bring the Conservative movement ideologically closer to the Reform movement...

Like I said, foreign religions.

h, do yourself a favor and dont try to quote the Naviim, you just show your ignorance. While they did speak of our obligations to the widow and orphan they also spoke of our duties to Hashem how we had failed because we didnt follow the Torah zealosly enough. In the future at least use a quote where its believable that you learned the source material.

Something all Jews should acept is that Judaism is not Jefferson. Judaism is a patriachal racist religion. Only the Frum have any right to even speak on religious questions and when we are the majority, on day one Democracy will go, because Goyim are not the equal of Jews and no non-Torah Jew has any right to any power.

That being said, H, Zeev's point was the hypocrasy of the Left who scream and cry for the rights of everyone but Jews. I noticed that instead of answering his points you wrote a sarcastic response which just made you look like a imbusel. I didnt really expect more since you are a liberal

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Sun Mar 12, 09:02:00 PM GMT+2

Loyalist,
As for showing one's ignorance, I think calling someone an imbusel (did you mean imbecile, you ignorant illiterate imbecile?) is a good start. As for me quoting Nevi'im, then I think I did fine - I am quite willing to admit that they were admonishing the people for not staying faithful to Hashem, except my understanding of being faithful to Hashem is very different from yours. Yours is based on a rabbinic interpretation of halacha (designed for Galut) which wasn't even invented in the time of the Nevi'im. If you think that I am ignorant of the concept of Oral Torah handed down from Sinai, I am not, I just choose to base my understanding of Jewish History on fact as opposed to self supporting myth.

As for Judaism being a patriarchal racist religion, I might agree that this was the Judaism of the middle ages (though to use those terms then would have been anachronistic). You are right - the Judaism of RaMBaM, RaMBaN, Ibn Ezra, the Sfas Emes, The Tanya for sure - all these should be viewed today as of a racist, patriarchal nature. But that is what Zionism is all about - it is a revolution of Jewish identity - a declaration that Judaism as a religion (an idea created by the rabbinical establishment to preserve the Jewish tradition in exile) has served its purpose and that the Jewish Nation is reborn in our land and we now have the right to shape our national culture as we choose.

With regard to what you said about Democracy - I absolutely agree with you. It is entirely opposed to all the values you stand for, and I am sure that when those you define as frum are the majority, this will mean an end to democracy. It will be the end of Zionism, it will be the end of Israel. I think you should appear on all the adverts of UTJ, Shas, NU-NRP, Herut and Hazit. That way the secular public may actually wake up to the threat these parties and their ideology do pose.

As a general rule, Ze'ev tries to keep a civil debate going - I would suggest you try and keep to those guidelines - you sound like a raving lunatic. I might also suggest you apply for a position as an ambassador for Israel - I am sure your message will earn us plenty of friends in the international arena. In fact, why don't you apply for The Ambassador - I know someone who works for the show, perhaps he could put in a good word.

Take care Loyalist - and when you froth at the mouth, don't forget to wipe it off - otherwise you will never get a good shidduch.

H

Dear H,

That was one of the most articulate, inspiring and accurate responses I've ever read on just about any blog! You do the Jewish people a great service. While I do have a great admiration for the Orthodox, they do sometimes seem as primitive, barbaric and hateful as those they hate. Twisting religion to fit their venomous perspective on the world.

Hmmmm, who else does that?
