Entebbe, Jewish Pride and the Future of the Jewish People...

Today, July 4th marks the anniversary of one of the most daring and memorable events of modern Jewish history, namely Operation Thunderbolt / Mivtza Yonatan / AKA the Entebbe Raid, where Israel successfully executed one of the most compelling hostage rescue and counter-terror operations ever performed.

For those unfamiliar with the exact details of what happened, I recommend checking out this site .

(Also, if you are looking for a book to read over the summer which will give you a sense of Jewish Pride, both in being a part of the Jewish People and being able to call the Jewish State of Israel home, I strongly reccomend you reading "90 Minutes at Entebbe" by William Stevenson.)

Today, we find ourselves living in very trying times. Wherever one may find himself on the issues of "Disengagement", civil disobedience, refusal, negotiating with the "Palestinians"... there are no easy answers to be found that can allow anyone with a true Jewish heart to sleep well at night. The very future and unity of the Jewish People and State are very much at stake in the coming months.

We are living in a time where it seems as if there are few Jewish heroes to be found. Yet, 29 years ago today, during another hot summer in Israel, the Jewish People were united, both in fear, prayer, and ultimately in celebration. Yoni Netanyahu, led the mission and ultimatley fell in battle, on that night was enshrined for enternity amongst the heroes of the Jewish nation.

If we are to have a future here, in this little strip of land called Israel which we call home, we need to re-learn what exactly it means to be part of the Jewish People, and being able to live together with all of our Jewish brothers and sisters, even if we may have political disagreements.

On that note, here is a very timely article by Jonathan Rosenblum, as can be seen on the Aish HaTorah website, which I highly reccomend taking the time to read.
