Only Israeli Judaism is Authentic!

So said Israeli author A.B. Yehoshua in May 2006, at the American Jewish Committee's (AJC) Centennial Symposium.

He reiterated similar sentiments in the clip below.

Unsurprisingly, many both in Israel and the world Jewish community disagreed.

In response, the AJC complied a booklet of responses, both for and against what A.B. Yehoshua said, entitled: The A. B.Yehoshua Controversy: An Israel-Diaspora Dialogue on Jewishness, Israeliness, and Identity

It makes for a good read.

This is ironic since Yehoshua is a profoundly self-hating Jew who once said the Jewish people should become Muslim or Christian so we would be more "normal"

If only the Jews in Europe, Africa, America, Russia etc. had known for the past two thousand years that Israeli Judaism is the only "real" Judaism. Then, perhaps, they could have avoided much persecution.

"We're not real Jews!" they could have told the Nazis. "Only Israeli Jews are real Jews!"

What e.d. said is correct up to a level, if jews returned to Israel completely from any of their exiles: Babylonian, and boy did they love Babylon, Persian, Sfarad, there would be no Nazis, they appeared to do the job of Kadosh baruch hu, that we did not do. We could have had Israel in 1500, if we had understood we had enough of galut.

After all, Yehoshua, stands for power and totality of the relationship between Jewish people, and he is right in noticing that it becomes total only in the land of Israel

G-D, jewish people and land of Israel are one. One means total and powerfull.

True, Israel, the Jewish People, and G-d are one. But Israel functions on another level as well, beyond the Physical. The Idea of Israel, and the fact that it is Physically a Jewish Nation, give all Jews worldwide Hope and Power. So long as Israel stands, Jews the world over will have strength, sanctuary, and hope.
