Are you a Zionist?

Can a Jew who doesn't live in Israel be a Zionist?

Rabbi Avi Weiss says no.

I tend to agree.

I know he was intending to make aliyah. Did he yet?

Now we just need some to emphasize Torath Eretz Yisrael for those living.

I don't agree.

I am a Jew living in New York City, and I consider myself a Zionist. (Nor do I let other people tell me what I can or cannot consider myself as...nobody has that power, no matter how much they try to tell themselves that they do.)

What exactly do you think a Zionist is?

I have visited Israel. I support Israel's right to exist as the Homeland and Nation of the Jewish people. I support them with my dollars. I try to educate people about the true nature of the "Middle East Conflict", i.e. the attempted destruction of the Jewish people for the last 60 years.

No, I don't live in Israel. I don't have plans on living there in the near future.

However, I am very happy that I have the CHOICE to live there at any moment I choose. That there is a place for me, a Jewish man, that can be considered my spiritual home. I consider myself lucky for having that.

And do I think that all Jews HAVE to live in Israel? I think telling me that I have to live somewhere, is equally as bad as telling me I CAN'T live somewhere else.

As a Jew, you should respect your fellow man's freedom of choice...and it is not YOUR purpose or right to tell me what I can or can't do. Nor anyone else's.

So yes, I consider myself a Zionist...and anyone who thinks that all Jews HAVE NO CHOICE but to live in Israel - well, you're no zionist friend of mine.
